Bb 2.0: A Collaborative Music/Spoken Word Project

Your MixerI just happened onto this: Bb 2.0. This is a collaborative project started by Darren Solomon, whom, up to this point, I had no knowledge of. It is a collection of Youtube videos that you can play one at a time, or all together, or in whatever mix, whatever order, you wish.

After you get over how cool it is, that it actually works, you find that you've wasted 30 or so minutes. I personally wasted nearly an hour.

Click on the link at the top of the page to show more info, specifically the link to the faq, where it is explained.

How Gapless Playback changed my playlists

Getting ready for work this morning, I picked up my iPod and put on the latest addition to my collection: Chromeo's Fancy Footwork. Being my first time listening to the album, I was amazed at how smooth the transitions between songs were.

Something that has always impressed me is an album put together as an album rather than a collection of songs. Whether it was Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Tool, or Cut Copy, it seems more creatively-impressive to hear something that sounds like it was written with purpose. LPs were designed to listen to straight through, and the same seemed true for cassettes. With the advent of the compact disc and the ability to easily jump from track to track, the album seemed to lose its meaning.

Does the music video matter anymore?

Growing up, MTV was the way I discovered a lot of new bands. An iconic music video would catch my attention and if the song had a good groove, I'd probably pick up the album.

I remember the first time I saw Jamiroquai's video for "Virtual Insanity". Jamiroquai had been around for a while, but no one really paid much attention until they saw him (and the surrounding furniture) slide around in that white room. The same was true a decade earlier for Aha's "Take On Me" and the integration of live action and animation.

Then came The Real World. It was neat to be able to see what a group of twenty-somethings acted like when they were forced to live together in a house. Little did we know that it was the beginning of an age where reality TV would take over MTV, and the "music" part of Music Television would cease to exist.

Metallica fan urine-soaked by ex-cop

Concerts are meant to get out of hand. When I think about the phrase "rock show," the first thing that comes to mind is a stream of cops flooding the Rage Against the Machine concert during the last song when Zach de la Rocha screamed "F@#% YOU, I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!"

These events can quickly become unruly, but they don't often get as disgusting as an ex-cop from Massachusetts urinating on a Metallica fan.

Apparently Joseph Houston was so intoxicated at a January Metallica concert in Boston that he urinated on the concert patron in-front of him. Houston decided that rather than miss a lick of "All Nightmare Long," the better choice would be to use another Metallica fan as his own private urinal.

I've certainly witnessed my fair share of drug-related, violent, and even sexual acts at concerts, but this might take the cake on the intensity scale. Have a classic concert moment that you think could compete? Fire away in the comments!
