Set List: The Swell Season (and Special Guest) at Warehouse Live

www.theswellseason.comInteractive marketing extraordinaire and close personal friend of AudioADD, Monica Danna, dropped us an email last night essentially shaming us for missing Friday's The Swell Season show at Warehouse Live. After reading what she had to say and watching the video she sent us (below), AudioADD is really kicking ourselves for missing the gig, especially for the fact that she offered us her spare.

Monica's email read as follows:

If you missed the Swell Season show on Friday, you missed an amazing moment in Houston music history. Well, at least my short time in it.

The entire show was incredible, but during the first encore they started to play a new song, and Glen started to coach the crowd on a singalong part. The crowd was so quiet, they closed down both bars and you could have heard a pin drop in there. Never heard the place quieter. as we were practicing the singalong part, you could hear this one voice that seemed to be floating above the crowd. A big-bodied soulful voice that was harmonizing. Glen heard it too, and stopped everyone and invited her up on stage to sing with the band. Everyone was flipping.

She gets up to the stage, this large, black woman with a small afro. You could tell she was just beside herself. So they go into the song, and she ad libs the whole thing. Starting slow at first, then really getting into the choruses. it. was. incredible.

...i can't remember ever feeling like that at a show before. it was this huge kumbaya moment. so so so great.

Thankfully, Monica also included a link to the video of said performance.

As it turns out, "Moji," the owner of the voice has her own musical project, known as 2 Dollar Sound.

Monica went on to say:

They started out just Glen and Marketa, they walked out on stage and sat on the floor and sang Fallen From the Sky (the scene when they met int eh movie Once) then they got us sang a few together, then welcomed The Frames out. Played a few songs, Marketa sang a few on her own. Everyone left the stage by Glen and he sang about 3 by himself. During Say it to Me Now he ripped out the amp cord, stood on the edge of the stage and played it entirely acoustic. No mics.

The band came back out and they played a few Frames tunes.  Lots of songs from the new album Strict Joy, including: Low Rising, Feeling the Pull, Fantasy Man, High Horses, Back Broke.  Of course favorites like Lies, Leave, and When Your Mind's made up. Other songs included Once, Have I Loved you Wrong, and Moon.

They were entirely gracious and humble, and you could tell they really have a good time with each other on stage. It was refreshing. Glen and Marketa are adorable, he constantly glances at as if to assure her that everything is fine.

Covered Van Morrison's Astral Weeks and the very last song played was a cover "from a guy from Texas...Waller, TX to be exactl" the entire band came to the front of the stage and a capella'd Daniel Johnston's Devil Town. I lost my shit. It was incredible.

Damn it was a good show.

Well damn. Sorry we missed it. Make sure to check out the video and leave some comments if you were on hand. Stay tuned for the next edition of Set List, a new series highlighting local shows.

It almost hurts to have not been there in person. Thanks so much for the contribution, Sarah!

Thanks for posting this! It was possibly the best moment of my life... I never thought being loud would get me anything but in trouble, but it got me onstage with one of my favorite bands!

-Stay Well,

Moji
